Air date: Tuesday, May 03, 2011, 3:00:00 PM Time displayed is Eastern Time, Washington DC Local Category: Wednesday Afternoon Lectures Description: The highly selective exchange of proteins and RNA between the nucleus and cytoplasm is essential for cell function, and precisely regulated during cell division, differentiation and death. Many aspects of this process are poorly understood and have direct impacts on human disease. This lecture will have three objectives. One, it will provide background on current models for messenger RNA export from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, and points for key cellular regulation of gene expression. Second, the lecture documents the discovery of essential factors for coupling mRNA export and translation in the budding yeast and cell culture m...

Shepherds of the Western Range: The H-2A Sheep Herder Program. Open range sheep herding is a proud and historic part of our western ranching heritage. H-2A sheep herders are center stage in this rugged and sometimes remote lifestyle. Shepherds of the Western Range takes an in-depth look at the working conditions of the H-2A sheep herders. It provides a unique opportunity to learn about sheep herding on the open range.
The Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 fuel cell electric truck being handed over to the U.S. Army’s Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) on Monday, (April 10, 2017) at the General Motors Milford Proving Ground. The hydrogen-powered fuel cell in the ZH2 runs nearly silent, can export up to 25 kW of electric power and generate up to two gallons of useable water per hour from its only emission, which is water vapor. http://www.ibioseminars.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=738&Itemid=732 Part 1 The control of mRNA production and function is a key aspect of the regulation of gene expression. In the first part of this lecture, I will discuss how in eukaryotic cells, the control of mRNA localization, translation and degradation in the cytoplasm allow for the proper regulation of the amount, duration, and location of protein production. The basic mechanisms of these processes are understood and reveal that the mechanisms of localization, translation, and degradation are interconnected. The unique properties of each mRNA are dictated by its intrinsic interactions with cellular machines, as well as its complement of mRNA specific RNA binding proteins and miRNAs. Strikingly, mRNPs are dynamic...
More than 13 years after the discovery of Mad Cow disease halted U.S. beef exports to China, that ban has been lifted. It’s a major element of a trade deal between the two countries that also features Chinese cooked chicken coming to the U.S. CGTN'S Hendrick Sybrandy reports from Colorado.

The Indigenous Land Corporation's Roebuck Export Depot near Broome, in Western Australia, was specifically designed as a low stress environment for the preparation of cattle for the live cattle export trade. Cattle spend up to a week at the depot where they are given health checks and adjusted to the onboard feed and other animals they'll be travelling with. Before leaving the Depot on trucks for the 30km trip to Broome, the cattle have a final check from an accredited veterinarian to ensure they are in prime condition for their journey to Indonesia on a specialist livestock transport ship.
